Building 12 at the Open University is designed as a naturally ventilated building of 2000m2 on two floors. The projection is that it will achieve BREEAM Excellent rating as it is both highly insulated and has a high thermal mass. In addition it incorporates ground source heat pumps, solar water heating, photovoltaic panels and solar chimneys.

Contrasol were pleased to work within the framework partnering contract, to design, supply and install bespoke 300mm glass fins. The fins have varying tints of blue, green and grey and are manufactured from heat soaked toughened glass, projecting via purpose made aluminum curtain wall brackets, all designed to achieve optimum protection from solar gain.
