The extension was designed as a focal point for the 6th Form students, providing a cafe, study areas and a roof top terrace. The simple box form is surrounded by our vertical cubic fins to shade and conceal the spaces within, giving the students an element of privacy and separation from the rest of the college.
The challenge for us on this project was to provide the consistent vertical fin design required around the building while fixing to the different materials and support structure on the facade. We had to engineer and produce a range of 1st fix bespoke brackets to fix back and secure to blockwork, steelwork and curtain walling mullions.
