Heartlands High School

Product:

300F Eco Fin

Architect:

HMY

The design for this brand new secondary school is to be a local flagship for the government’s Building Schools for the future programme. The school will accomodate over 1000 pupils within a building that is both sustainable and inclusive.

Sustainability was fundamental to the project, which is set to achieve an “excellent” BREEAM rating. Constructed on brownfield land, the school employs a variety of on-site renewable energy saving strategies and minimises consumption through careful orientation and solar shading.

Numerous bays totaling close to 1000 sq meters of our stacked Western Red Cedar Eco fin were installed onto four elevations of the building, across two blocks. The design not only provides a sustainable solution to solar gain, but the system also creates a striking visual aesthetic between the stainless steel structure and the timber fins.
